Last Friday night on this site, I wrote: “tomorrow when we take on Brighton at Portman Road but for some reason, I am not confident of a result at this stage. We’ll see……”
In the end, I had no reason to be worried as the Town produced one of their best displays for many a while and were worthy 2-0 winners.
I had the pleasure of my brother Shaun accompanying me to the game and he’d not seen Ipswich play since we lost 3-0 on New Years Day to…..Brighton! So I was pleased for him to see not only a win but a good display too. Plus I built David McGoldrick up to him somewhat before the game. To see him net two more cracking goals which ultimately went towards him being announced the Championship Player of the Month in the last day or so, rounded the day off nicely.
Then there was Derby! I’m not going to say anything here as I’ll leave that for next week’s column. But let’s look on the bright side, you’re not going wrong if you win your home games and draw your away games. We’ve done that this week and gained a point more out of the two corresponding fixtures last season. There is always Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow to pick up that elusive first away win of the season!
On to this week’s column and included in the subject matters is a great chat that I had with one of Town’s greatest ever and maybe longest supporters, Brian Bell (who at the age of 72 has missed just 11 home games since he was 15):
As good as it gets for Town fans…..So much has changed for supporters…..and Travel sick Blues look to end away day woes at Pride Park (they spectacularly didn’t).

Finally, please don’t forget that you are always welcome to contribute to the column (Contact Karl is the link above to get in touch) and I am extremely grateful to Archant Suffolk for their permission in reproducing this column. Happy reading and COYB!
